Press Release from Moray Council on Addiction (MCA)

It is with much sadness that we have to inform you that Moray Council on Addiction will be closing its doors at the end of November 2015.

MCA has for over thirty years been providing addiction counselling to the people of Moray during which time we have provided counselling to over 4000 people, however regrettably our finances will be exhausted by November this year with no prospect of future funding.

For the last 3 years we have been running on funding which we received in the form of donations from members of the public and in particular a generous bequest from Mrs Alison Wilson, a former counsellor, which has allowed us to remain open in the face of shrinking public finance.

Our core funding stream in the past has been in the main from the NHS and the Moray Council, however, given the prevailing economic climate, like many other charities, MCA has seen this funding disappear.

Other funding providers, for example The Big Lottery, Children In Need etc are project funders only, and while MCA has in the past been very successful in securing money to run projects such as YPAC, project funding cannot fund core running costs of charities.

After much consideration and deliberation, we came to the conclusion that as there is no further core funding, we as an agency, will have to close. This planned closure ensures that our clients will receive our best to the end. We will be accepting new clients until 14th September 2015 which allows counselling to be completed before we close.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has touched MCA over the past 30+ years, and contributed to our success.
